At FAB9, safety is the most important thing to us - for you, your fellow makers, and our staff. We’ve designed a series of inductions that will show you the safe and effective way to work with specific machines and tools in the makerspace.
Timber shop: Timber prep is essential for all FAB9 members to complete before gaining access to FAB9’s jointer, thicknesser, domino, and router table.
In this 2 hour induction session, you’ll be introduced to the FAB9 way of working with the jointer, thicknesser, domino joiner, and router table, while showing you the safe way to work in our Timber shop.
The session will also provide a general overview of the milling process, while covering a broader range of specific machine features, applications, and techniques, including:
- how to prepare your timber face and edge with the jointer
- how to prep your timber and avoid snipes on the thicknesser
- how to achieve different kinds of internal / hidden joinery using the domino
- how to create grooves, dadoes and slots on the router table
Once you’ve completed this induction, you’ll be able to start using the jointer, thicknesser, domino joiner, and router table machines within the Timber shop at FAB9.
