FAB9’s story began in 2014, when Silicon Valley engineer Hans Chang became fascinated by the meteoric rise of the maker movement. The story led Hans to Melbourne, Australia. With a manufacturing industry in transition, a burgeoning and vibrant startup ecosystem and a culture of design and independent making, the city was the ideal environment for FAB9’s first location.
In 2016, a generous grant from LaunchVic - Victoria’s independent startups agency - helped to launch the project. Since then, Hans, joined by Creative Director Ying Zhang, and a dynamic team of designers, architects, engineers and storytellers have worked passionately to bring FAB9 to life.
FAB9’s home is located at The Dream Factory, an iconic heritage-listed building on the banks of the Maribyrnong River in Footscray, a hub for technology, design and social impact businesses.Read More...
