Learn more about membershipsFAB9’s story began in 2014, when Silicon Valley engineer Hans Chang became fascinated by the meteoric rise of the maker movement. The story led Hans to Melbourne, Australia. With a manufacturing industry in transition, a burgeoning and vibrant startup ecosystem and a culture of design and independent making, the city was the ideal environment for FAB9’s first location.
In 2016, a generous grant from LaunchVic - Victoria’s independent startups agency - helped to launch the project. Since then, Hans, joined a dynamic team of designers, architects, engineers and storytellers have worked passionately to bring FAB9 to life.
FAB9’s home is located at The Dream Factory, an iconic heritage-listed building on the banks of the Maribyrnong River in Footscray, a hub for technology, design and social impact businesses.
